Do a keyword analysis

Why I chose Search Engine Optimization Tips in the head, and not SEO tips? Search engine optimization tips have 50 searches a month, while SEO tips have 40 searches a month. Usually here I would maybe go for SEO tips even if it has less searches a month, because it has a better flow in it. Nevertheless, I chose search engine optimization tips, because seo tips is also an English keyword — then the competition is also much higher.

A keyword analysis is fundamental when you are going to work with SEO. Start there and then look at how to proceed with the website.

Optimize your landing pages

Optimizing a landing page is about more than the title. There are countless on-page factors that make Google rank your content better than others. Some factors to consider:

  • Content
  • Intermediate titles
  • Captions
  • InternLinking
  • Meta Texts

Need help getting your landing pages to rank? We can assist with both SEO optimization of landing pages, or tailoring an SEO optimization guide for your website.

Structure the content correctly

Proper use of H-tags in the post is important both for search engines, users and not least universal design (such as users with low vision). The H stands for heading, and is used to structure content so that it is easier to read and clearer for search engines. H1 is the main title for the page you are referring to and tells what the “main content” is, while H2 and H3 are used to divide the post into several paragraphs. H3 should only be used if there is a new section with an intermediate title that is an underlying theme of the last H2.

Hone the meta texts

Page title and meta description is the text that Google displays in search results, and is your website's sales text. 90% of search queries relate only to the first results page, but why should users click on your website over the other 10 on that page? Hone your meta texts with selected keywords and tell them why they should choose your website!

Focus on longtail keywords

Long and specific keywords are what we often call longtail keywords. It can be e.g. How to choose the right skis. The number of searches per month is lower, but the competition is less as it is more specific, and the relevance is much higher — ergo also the conversion becomes higher when you hit exactly what the user is searching for.

Create content articles for the blog, or your own sections under category pages. Look at the connection between the keyword and where it will be relevant to place the content on the website.

How to get inspiration for content:

  • Use the keyword analysis
  • Ask the call center
  • What searches are done internally on the website?
  • Check Google Trends
  • See what your competitors are doing

Do you want to focus more on content, but don't know how to work strategically with it? Then you can get some tips here for how to work with content marketing.

Alt text and image files

The alternative caption (often called alt-text in CMS) should describe the image and include the keyword in a natural way. Google is unable to see what the image is without reading the alternative caption, which is why describing image is incredibly important. For example, the content is about randonnéskis, and one uses an illustration picture of a man skiing for it, one can instead use man on tour, write man on tour with randonnéeski.

Create Google My Business

If you have a store, cafe or place your users can stop by to shop or get help, you should create a Google My Business account. According to Google, 82% of Google users search for local information. In addition, research shows that companies that respond to their reviews in Google My Business appear 1.7 times more reliable than those who are not active with feedback. The tool is free, easy to use and converts more visitors to your business. Win-win!

How to get started, and what to start with first?

Again, I will return to the first point -- the keyword analysis! To find out where the greatest potential lies, you also need to know which keywords can give you that potential. Then you should also look at how you rank today, how much organic traffic your website has and what elementary SEO factors are in place for your website. An SEO analysis will help you with this. By combining these two analyses, we prepare a priority SEO measures list.

Once you have a keyword analysis and SEO analysis in place, you can start prioritizing which initiatives and pages to start with. Make content optimization easier and more efficient for yourself — work with pages in bunches. We often see product pages rank well without the same amount of optimization work required, as the search often becomes more specific with product names and hits users better.

For category pages, on the other hand, the content can be more difficult for Google to decipher again, because it becomes more general when it lists many different products. Then it's even more important to work more consistently with the right keywords.

No matter what kind of business or website you have, several of these tips will be useful if you want to increase your traffic from Google. If you have any questions or need help getting started, contact us.
